Canned vs. Creative: A Presentation Exploring Generative and General Artificial Intelligence

The media is filled with discussions of the promise and perils of AI, even more so with the release of ChatGPT, which often creates text that seems eerily human. This presentation will explore AGI – what is it, how does it differ from the AI we’ve come to love or fear, and does it even exist?  We’ll also touch on human intelligence – after all, that’s the benchmark, and we’ll look at how current AI stacks up against us - where it excels, and where it falls short.

Intelligence has been studied for centuries, but it is only rather recently that IQ tests and the Turing Test have been looked at as potential metrics.  During this presentation you should come away with a little better understanding of why YOU are intelligent, and we’ll probe into how AGI may make you obsolete – or even more powerful. We’ll also put AI under the lens, and look at its considerable accomplishments, and compare these with the current state of AGI, and see if we can gain some insights of how it must grow to attain what we might call human-level AI.

During this presentation, attendees will learn about some of the groundbreaking advances in AGI and how they are being applied in different fields. The presenter will highlight how AGI is not only helping to automate tasks but also spurring creativity and innovation in a range of industries. The audience will also gain insights into how it is being used to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time. For example, AI is being used to accelerate drug discovery, optimize renewable energy, drive cars, land Mars Rovers, read MRIs, and route all of those Amazon vans we see everywhere.  We’ll also learn about the ethical and societal implications of AI – as well as the scientists who develop this technology.

Will there be an Artificially Intelligent colleague or companion in your future? How would such an entity change the way you work?  What would it take to have meaningful social interactions with one? And should we just toss the technology out there and people run with it, or are there ethical considerations that can and should constrain such an approach?

This presentation promises to be an informative and thought-provoking exploration of one of the most exciting and transformative fields in artificial intelligence. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the possibilities and challenges of Artificial General Intelligence, and a sense of how and when this technology is set to shape the future.
